United Way Day of Action

On June 16 Nancy Snyder and seven other members of First Heritage Federal Credit Union joined me in the Pantry Patch as part of the United Way’s Day of action. We were one of dozens of sites who benefited from volunteer work on that day to help improve the community.

Our group harvested 3 1/2 quarts of Sugar Ann snap peas, five quarts of Swiss chard, 8 1/2 dozen garlic scapes and 3 1/2 dozen green onions. After prepping and packaging all of the produce it was delivered to the food pantry to give out that day when it opened at 10 a.m.

We returned to the garden and weeded ten of the raised beds and planted another sixty onion sets in the bed from which we had just picked. It was amazing how much work got done by nine people in just two hours.
